NEW YORK: US natural gas futures slid about 3% to an 11-week low on Monday on record output and forecasts for milder weather and lower demand over the next two weeks than previously expected. Gas futures for May delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell 8.3 cents, or 2.6%, to $3.162 per million British thermal units at 8:54 a.m. EDT (1254 GMT), putting the contract on track for its lowest close since January 31 for a third day in a row. That also kept the front-month in technically oversold territory for a third consecutive day for the first time since October 2024. Analysts noted the mild weather should allow utilities to keep injecting lots of gas into storage through at least early May.
